longitudinal crack during high speed casting..

The most sensitive crack susceptibility range of carbon contents lie in the range of 0.12-- 0.13 %. This was due to shell irregularity between mold surface and solidified shell withdrawn by Delta - Gamma transformation.

Increase of crack formation is attributed to the the increase of "P" & "S" content, these segregates at dendrite interface.

The increase of crack formation due to increase in "P" & "S" is due to enlargement of the "delta" T, which is defined as the temp. difference between LIT(liquid impenetrable temp.)  and ZDT (zero ductility temp.)

The effect of casting speed on LC has linear relationship.

Delta - Gama transformation is uneven solidified shell shape transformation- leading to uneven cooling.

residual liquid film by segregation of "P" & "S", the change of austenitic grain sizeby the carbon contents are most influential factors on crack formation by embrittlement.

ZDT : Zero ductility temp.
LIT : Liquid impenetrable temp.
ZST : Zero strength temp.
